Anubis the god of the dead, was often depicted in the form of a jackal. Funeral rites were very significant to the ancient Egyptians as they had a strong belief in life after death. Anubis is the god who supervised the embalming and mummification process. The god Anubis portrayed as a jackal god of mummification in the Cairo Museum.
